SVHC Testing

Since the establishment of REACH by EU in 2007, SVHC list keeps on updating. Related materials have wide influence on the product and processing methods in industries including mechanical, automobile, chemical engineering, civil engineering. 

According to the provisions of Section 7.2 of the REACH Regulation, if the item contains more than 0.1% of the SVHC substance and the substance enters the EU more than 1 ton/year/company per year, the manufacturer or importer of the item must apply to the EU chemicals management. The bureau will report.

The scope of products controlled by REACH is very wide, so almost products exported to EU are included. The products need to be conducted SVHC test include, but not limited to:

Testing items
For the first batch to the eighteenth batch of SVHCs：

• In October 2008, the 1st batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 15 items;
• In January 2010, the 2nd batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 13 items;
• In June 2010, the 3rd batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 8 items;
• In December 2010, the 4th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 8 items;
• In June 2011, the 5th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 7 items;
• In December 2011, the 6th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 20 items;
• In June 2012, the 7th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 13 items;
• In December 2012, the 8th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 54 items;
• In June 2013, the 9th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 6 items;
• In December 2013, the 10th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 7 items;
• In June 2014, the 11th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 4 items;
• In December 2014, the 12th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 6 items;
• In June 2015, the 13th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 2 items;
• In December 2015, the 14th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 5 items;
• In June 2016, the 15th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 1 item;
• In January 2017, the 16nd batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 4 items;
• In June 2017, the 17th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 1 item
• In December 2017, the 18th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 7 items
• In Jun 27, 2018, the 19th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 10 items
• In Jan 15, 2019, the 20th batch of SVHC list was officially released, totaling 6 items

As the regulation constantly updates, there will be more harmful substances to be included in the SVHC candidate list. EU strictly controls SVHC, which certainly will raise the export cost of the home appliance, textile, toy, and other industry. The notification of SVHC has become an obligation of exporters to certify the safety of their products. Therefore, with the impending requirement for the notification of SVHC, the relevant enterprises need to strengthen the response to it. For export enterprises that their products have been confirmed to contain or may contain SVHC, MVT Testing suggests:

• Compared with SVHC list, get to know the character of own products export to EU, and test substances contained in the products, and rule out the possibility that all the substances used may be defined as SVHC.
• Track and pay attention to the revision of AVHC list, strengthen to research REACH regulation and substances of very high concern identification standard and improve the testing capability of SVHC.
• Predict the trend of SVHC list in future, establish perfect quality management system, choose environmental protection materials in product design and quicken industrial upgrading in structural design, and need to strengthen efforts to develop and seek safety alternative substances to harmful substances.
